Irish Software Company Positioning for Print

A new imposition software application that arranges and numbers artwork for
printhas just been released by Offaly based software company Pyxis.

The product, PyxisImposed, is one from a suite of applications being launched by the company, headed up by Lisa Dooley (managing director), her brother Simon, together with their dad, Brendan.

PyxisImposed and is designed to simplify the task of arranging artwork for print, having the potential to save print companies of all sizes a considerable amount of time.

“It can automatically layout a two sided business card on an SRA3 print sheet in just one click”, explained Lisa. “Our goal is to design software that is really easy to use, that it makes all possible decisions for the user. For example, when numbering a ticket job, some software applications will require the user to import the artwork, then separately import a numbered file, ask you how many up you would like to print and so on.  We think it should be much easier. With PyxisImposed, the software automatically figures out the ‘number-up’ based on the artwork dimensions and the output sheet size. It creates any numbers required in the background. The user doesn’t need to know anything about this. The user is only required to input the minimum amount of information, like the total quantity required, what number to start at and where to place them. That’s all you need”, explained an enthusiast Lisa.

Apart from automatically laying out standard designs on the chosen print sheet, PyxisImposed also does booklet imposition and can automatically detect the bleed area along the spine for popular sizes, including A4, A5 and A6. It also has an option of preparing a proofing sheet. When this option is selected, all pages in the original artwork file are placed one after the other on your chosen output / print sheet. So you squeeze your deigns into the minimum number of print sheets.

The company has a range of other applications that will be making their debut over the coming months, including PyxisInk for creating initial ink-key settings for a litho press, PyxisProfit - for generating hourly-rate and markup and a cloud application PyxisWorkflow. Lisa explained that all of these applications have been undergoing testing for some time now. She believes that PyxisWorkflow will change the way the trade interacts with its customers and will introduce a new and simplified way of doing business.

A free 30 day trial of PyxisImposed is available to download from www.pyxis.ie
Both MAC and PC versions are available and Pyxis would welcome feedback from users who download and try the software.
