Webprint Cork to halve workforce following Crosbie contract loss

Cork newspaper printer Webprint is to halve it’s 46-strong workforce following the loss of a 15 year, €22m contract to print titles for the now defunct Thomas Crosbie Holdings, which accounted for up to 70% of the company’s turnover.
Speaking of the move, Webprint’s Managing Director, Donagh O’Doherty commented:
“Due to the events of recent weeks, which were entirely unexpected and not of our making, Webprint has regrettably had no option but to make 26 of our team redundant,” This move means the company will now be the right size for our current level of business and also positions us well for growth.”
Thomas Crosbie Holdings was placed in receivership last month and the bulk of its assets subsequently acquired a company owned by former TCH shareholders, Ted and Tom Crosbie.
Printing of the Irish Examiner and The Evening Echo has been transferred to the Irish times in a move that has prompted Webprint to take legal action, claiming abuse of the insolvency process.
Webprint has retained the contract to print The Sunday Business Post, and according to Mr, O'Doherty is working to replace the lost business with new contracts.
